Dressing for Church

Mar 19, 2026

Our first really full day in Singapore started with a quite wonderful breakfast. As I have said previously it takes a while to get the lay of the land with breakfast buffet layouts but we managed well this first day. The key is to preload with fibre so that anything that potential upsets the old gasrointestinal tract has a built in timer that gives you time to react and find suitable shelter. That detail aside we hastened to an 8.30am rendezvous with a pre booked bus tour around the city/country.

I must say that the tour was very well paced and our guide was both deliberatlely and naturally funny and informative all at the same time. All the while gently informing us of the many laws that could quite easily send any of us to jail. Chewing gum, jaywalking, vaping, littering, divisive racism and so on. We were reasonably sure we were good for avoiding significant jail time. Anyway as luck would have it the first stop was a Mosque in Kampong Glam. Lovely place with a rich history. Suffice it to say we made friends with a few folks and thus gained the couples photo.

I returned the favour and was at once berated by Mrs Verno for suggesting that the gentleman “suck it in” a bit more. An earful was avoided once the obvious lad banter became evident. Anyway the gods forgave me when we visited the Nagore Durga Shrine, an Indian Muslim Shrine that happened to be close to the hotel.

The tour continued as evident below.

The day continued after the tour once we had wee rest. A venture into Chinatown was a last minute decision but proved worth it as we bidded our time until our next activity. We visited two more temples and it must be said they were well worth visiting. The Buddhist Tooth Temple had dress regulations which unfortunately resulted in the following. The more observant of you will be impressed that I am currently growing an extra arm. Overall nota fashion highlight but a medical marvel nonetheless.

More from day two at some stage but for now it is beyond sleep time.
